Hiking Trails: Base Camp Trails

De Wildt Adventure Trails are situated on the border of North West and Gauteng on the R513. It is approximately 30 minutes from Pretoria and 45 minutes from Johannesburg close to Hartbeespoort in the majestic Magaliesberg Mountains with stunning interesting rock formations, panoramic views and a diversity of fauna and flora!

"Que Sera Sera" - Escape from reality in our beautiful, tranquil picnic area with amazing braai facilities - either bring your own cooler box or come and relax and we will cater for you. Hikers have 6 well planned, clearly marked trails to choose from, trail maps available. All trails are color coded and very easy to follow. 2 of the trails are also pet friendly - must be pre booked.

The Trial Options:
Kiepersol Trail - 5km or 7.5km (moderate to easy)
Peglerae Trail - 6.5km or 9km (moderate)
Peglerae Trail - 12.5km (moderate – difficult)
Ktatu Loop - 12.5km (moderate to difficult)
Dinaneni Loop - 12.5km (moderate)
Euphorbia Trail 18km - (difficult)
Groenklip Tour - 12.5km (available every 3rd Sunday of the month, min 8 hikers)
And our 23km overnight trail over 2 days.

Kiepersol Trail (5km or 7.5km)
Duration: 1.5 hours to 2 hours

Elevation Gain: 251m
Elevation Loss: 249m
Rating: Easy to Moderate
- This trail is pet friendly and ideal for families with young children, beginners, and intermediate hikers. New to the Kiepersol trail is the Groenklip loop. This loop will extend your hike to 7.5km and introduce you to the Magalies berg so that you know what to expect if you are ready to take on the longer more advance trails on offer.

Peglarae Trail (6.5 km, 9km, 12km)
Duration: 2 hours to 3 hours

Elevation Gain: 416m
Elevation Loss: 416m
Rating: Moderate
- This trail is pet friendly and perfect for intermediate to experience hikers. The Peglerae is ideal for a quick hike and still get the workout that you are looking for. For summer months you can be out of the Magalies before the summer heat attacks you.

Dinaneni Trail (12.5km)
Duration: 3 hours to 4 hours

Highest Point: 1661m
Elevation Gain: 508m
Elevation Loss: 508m
Rating: Moderate
- The Dinaneni 12.5km is a 5.5km extension to the east of the very popular 9km Peglerae. This loop gives you a combined distance of 12.5km that is not so tough as the Ktatu 12.5km

Ktatu Loop Trail (12.5km)
Duration: 3.5 hours to 5 hours

Highest Point: 1616m
Elevation Gain: 595m
Elevation Loss: 595m
Rating: Moderate to Difficult
- The Ktatu 12.5km is a 4km extension to the west of the very popular 9km Peglerae. This loop without the Denaneni loop give you a combined distance of 12.5km

Euphorbia Loop Trail (18km)
Duration: 5 hours to 7 hours
Office: 1332m
Highest Point: 1661m
Elevation Gain: 785m
Elevation Loss: 786m
Rating: Difficult
- The Euphorbia 18km trail is a combination of the Peglerae, Dinaneni Loop to the east and the Ktat Loop to the west. This trail is ideal for trail runners and fit or experience hikers

Groenklip Hiking Tour (12.5km) - Available every 3rd Sunday of the month
Min 8 hikers - This is a guided trail only. Groenklip as the locals call it, is a green rock on top of a small waterfall that is fed from fountains higher up in the mountain. This hike is a bit more challenging. There is a challenging climb to the top of the mountain. Once the top is reached, a relaxing hike with beautiful views awaits.
- No children younger than 12 years allowed
- This is an unmarked trail
- No pets allowed
- Tour for groups minimum of 8 persons and maximum off 20 persons

23km Base Camp Overnight Trail:
The 3 day / 2 night multiday hike is one of its kind, and only the 2nd overnight trail in Gauteng, with the main attention of focusing and exploring the fauna and flora of the Magaliesberg with magnificent views over a multiple day trail. Hikers can overnight in rustic shelters (8 shelters) or / and pitch own tents in or outside shelters. The 23km multiday trail will start with Ktatu (11.5km) on day 1 and Dinaneni (11.5km) on day 2 including nights in the overnight rustic shelter.
Please provide the following:
- Camping gear (Own matrass, sleeping bag, pillow)
- Own cooking utensils, Own cutlery and crockery
- Own toilet paper

Available at overnight shelter:
8x Overnight shelters. Min 2 and max 16 hikers. 2 hikers per shelter. Ablution with hot water, 2 showers, 2 toilets and hand basin.

Interesting to know:
- Braai packs and meals with sides can be ordered from The Bush Kitchen (pre-order and payment essential)
- Catering and cutlery also available upon request
- Menus available on request

Pertinent Information:
- Parking is at the reception (500m from the picnic area)
- At the picnic area there's wooden benches, tables and chairs, braai facilities, ablutions
- Bush kitchen closes at 15:00
- Wood is for sale
- Picnic baskets available - Please enquire

- There is a small shop for ice and small necessities
- Lovely big farm dam to swim in
- Opening Hours: Wed to Sun 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Mon and Tue Closed
