THE KEVIN RICHARDSON (The Lion Whisperer) WILDLIFE SANCTUARY is situated within the reserve. It consists out of 10x enclosures for White lions, Kalahari lions, black
leopards and hyenas. Our game rangers will take our visitors on a guided, informative tour to see and come very close to all these wonderful animals. Take note,
there are NO direct interaction with any animals allowed.
Welgedacht is just an hour away from Johannesburg and half an hour from Pretoria towards Cullinan. The reserve forms part of the greater Dinokeng Game Reserve, an
initiative by local government and Blue IQ, Gauteng's only Big 5 game reserve.
Game species introduced successfully include:
Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Gemsbok, Red Hartebeest, Kudu, Eland, Blue Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Blesbok, Zebra, Giraffe, Grey Duiker, Steenbok. Predators roaming freely
are Lion, Brown Hyena, Leopard, Caracal, Civet, Small spotted Genet and Black Backed Jackal. Visitors will also see a good number of small mammals like Warthog,
Hedgehog, Porcupine, Banded Mongoose, Water Mongoose, Red Hare, Bush Squirrel, Scrub Hare, bush babies and more.
More than 125 species of birds have been identified and listed in the reserve.
Our visitors will be treated with warm, hearted hospitality as we are proud to share "our world" and the things we care the most for, preserving our Fauna and Flora
with everyone who visits our reserve.
Day Tours: (Mondays to Thursdays) – minimum group of 4 persons per booking.
Includes: Welcoming snacks & drinks, a game drive where guests will see some big 5 roaming freely, a light lunch and then a visit to the Kevin Richardson Wildlife
Rate: R850 per adult and R650 per child u/12.
Overnight Packages: You can choose to stay 1 – 3 Day/Nights, any number of days/nights during the week or over the weekend. All packages are full board and include
accommodation, all meals, snacks, drinks, game drives and a visit to the Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary.
Rate: R1650 per adult and R1450 per child u/12 per
Mid-week bookings: (Mondays – Thursdays) Special rates for RSA citizens / over fifties and pensioners. Rates available on request.
The "Old Trading Post" (Main camp). This was an old general shop built in the early 1800's and was known as the "Voorslag Winkel". During the Anglo Boer War
(1880's) the shop was almost completely destroyed. This was being renovate a few years back and upgraded for private visitors accommodation. This is now being used
mainly for our overseas volunteer groups working with Kevin Richardson.
Our Private Bush Camp:
For our visitors who want to experience the real African Safari, we have accommodation in a safe enclosed, private Bush Camp with 5x 2 Bed en-suit chalets.
(Double/single beds). There is a huge thatched lounge / visitor's social area, private kitchen, game ranger's courters, a private pool, an open air braai boma and a
conversation pit! This camp is 400m away from our lion enclosures and guests will hear their majestic roaring at night! Visitors to our bush camp might just see
rhino, "wild lion" and elephant roaming past. Our visitors will always be accompanied by experienced game rangers.
- Exciting Game drives: Early morning/sunset/ night drives with our highly qualified and experienced game rangers. Game rangers will follow tracks of our elephants,
rhino and if lucky of our "wild" lions roaming freely, to give our guest a chance to take extraordinary photos of these animals in their natural environment.
- A visit to the Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary. Get a chance to see all the beautiful white lions, big Kalahari lions, black leopards and hyena families.
- A visit to our "young lion's" enclosure and "playing pen" of all our rescued, smaller animals.
- Catering: Visitors will be treated with fine South African cuisine – all meals, snacks and non- alcoholic beverages included. Our menus reflect typical wholesome
and healthy bush food and most meals are uniquely prepared on an open-fire in conversation with our guests. Our meals are served in our Bush Camp Lounge, Lapa, under
big shady trees.
- Excellent bird watching: Bird watching in and around enclosed camps with our rangers who will help you to identify and add some of the 125 species identified here,
on your check list.
- Excellent photography opportunities: Apart from all our beautiful game and birds, come and experience our panoramic views, unforgettable sun sets and stunning star
gazing at night.
