Our farm is situated just 3 kms outside the picturesque village of Wakkerstroom on the foot of the Versamel Mountains, less than 4 hours from Johannesburg, Pretoria and Nelspruit.

It is a wonderful place to stop over en-route to or from the Drakensberg, Kruger Park, various Kwa-Zulu Natal National Parks and the Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal coast, as well as being the perfect destination to rest, relax and soothe your soul.

FARMHOUSESleeps 6 Persons:

  • The main living area has an open-plan design with large doors opening up onto the veranda. This results into an open flowing space where you can sit down onto a comfortable coach and enjoy the beautiful view, the chatter of birds in the garden and on the demand the beautiful views over the wetlands and mountains. An Old farmhouse (minimum 6 persons) with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. Linen provided.

  • Dining Area – In summer breakfast, if the weather permits, is communally served around the 12-seater table on the veranda. The Aga stove creates a warm and cozy atmosphere in the dining room where breakfast is served in winter.

  • Lounge – The lounge is the ideal place to sit back and relax with soft music in the background, a book, playing cards or a board game which is available for guest’s entertainment. The room also has a TV with all the DSTV channels.

  • Bedrooms – The three rooms are luxurious and private. Rooms are equipped with tea & coffee making facilities, electric blankets and heaters for those cold winter months. Two rooms have double beds, and the third room has twin beds.

  • Bathrooms – Each room has its’ own modern bathroom – two bedrooms have spacious bathrooms with plush oval baths and a shower while the third bedroom has a shower only. Guest amenities consist of high-quality soap, shower gel, hair shampoo and hand cream.

  • Forellenhof is home to the scenic Induku Hiking Trail

    The Induku Hiking Trail, which starts and finishes at Forellenhof Guest Farm, is located just 6 kilometres outside Wakkerstroom, Mpumalanga.

    This trail is ideal for nature lovers, hikers, birders, wild-flower enthusiasts and anyone seeking clean air, panoramic views and pristine terrain.

    The Induku Trail provides hikers with outstanding opportunities to experience indigenous grasslands, seasonal wildflowers and wide-open mountain vistas in a peaceful, uncrowded setting

PLANTS & FLOWERS:

  • What at first glance appears to be grasslands is suddenly transformed into an array of colour during December, January and February.

    The high altitude grasslands of Wakkerstroom is home to a rich flora which includes a large variety of Orchids, Watsonias, Scarlet River Lilies, River Bells, Arum Lilies, Blood Lilies, Redhot Pokers, Agaphantus, Nerines and many more.

    Wakkerstroom area is home to many plant species that appear on the red list

EXPLORE THE WAKKERSTROOM WETLANDS AND BIRD HIDES:

  • • The Wakkerstroom wetlands, located just outside the village, are easily accessible and offer some of the best birdwatching opportunities in the country. • To make the most of your visit, head to one of the four well-placed bird hides situated around the wetlands.

  • On the western side, the Crane Hide and Iain Drummond Memorial Hide provide excellent views of waterfowl and shorebirds, with chances to spot species like the African Purple Swamphen, African Rail, and Red-chested Flufftail.

  • •On the northern edge of the wetland, the Clive Beck Hide and the WOW (Wings Over Wetlands) Hide offer peaceful settings for observing species like African Snipe, Little Bittern, and various herons and kingfishers.
