Klipkraal Guest Farm, Hiking& Mountain Bike Trails

KlipkraalGuest Farm is situated 100 km south of Johannesburg on the farms Rietfontein, Stryfontein and Hartebeestfontein in the Heidelberg district. It is only one hour from JHB and PTA.

Fauna & Flora:

More than 17 mammal species can be seen.  They include blesbuck, black wildebeest, Burchells’ zebra, springbok, steenbok, black backed jackal, grey rhebuck, common duiker and aardwolf.  Despite the introduction of cultivation there are large areas of indigenous flora in this range of hills which is an extension of the Suikerbosrand.

Bird life:

More than 110 confirmed species have been identified and recorded.  A bird checklist is available at the reception.

Climate:

The Highveld climate with it’s moderate to hot summers and moderate to cold winters. Winter nights can be very cold

The Habitat:

  • This unit can be used as a base camp for the hiking trails.

  • This camp can accommodate 20-33 persons – ideal for large groups (minimum 25 persons)

  • There is Electricity. 2 x Kitchens with fridge, stove, microwave, kettle, toaster, cutlery + crockery, pots, no 3 cast iron pot, big cast iron pot, pans.  Linen provided.

  • There are 9 different rooms with bunk beds and covered mattresses.

  • 2 Large lapas and “Raadsaal”/Social Area with a fire-place for the cold winter nights.

  • Wood and charcoal – 1 bag each provided. Extra wood @ R20 a bag.

  • RATES: R320 pppn Minimum 2 nights

Ouma Se Huisie:

  • An Old farm house (minimum 6 persons) with 3 bedrooms, 2 bath rooms.  Linen provided.

  • Lounge with a fire-place and a fully equipped kitchen.  Veranda with braai facilities.

  • NO electricity – solar power for the lights and gas appliances.

  • Kitchen: double door fridge, gas stove with an oven.

  • 19 Paraffin lamps are provided.

  • Bedroom 1- double bed, 1 single

  • Bedroom 3 – 2 single beds.

  • Bedroom 2 – double bed, 1 single
  • Lounge – 2 extra single beds

  • RATES: R320 pppn Minimum 2 nights

Die Opstal:

This is an old farm house with 6 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms (20 persons, minimum 12 persons)

  • Lounge with a fire-place and cozy kitchen.

  • Kitchen: Fully equipped, 2 fridges, stove, microwave oven, cutlery + crockery.  Electricity. Veranda with braai facilities. Lapa and boma for camp fires.

  • Bedroom 1 – double bed, 1 single bed – en suite.

  • Bedroom 2 – 2 singles, 1 bunk.

  • Bedroom 3 – 2 singles, 1 bunk en suite.

  • Bedroom 4 – 3 single beds.

  • Stoep – 2 single beds.

  • Lounge – 1 single bed extra.

  • 2 Extra bathrooms with shower and bath tub.

  • Outdoor building (room) – 1 double bed en suite

  • Outdoor building (room) – 2 single beds en suite

  • RATES: R290 pppn Minimum 2 nights

The Farm House:

  • This farmhouse accommodates 10-14 guests.  (Minimum 8 persons)

  • There are 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms. Linen provided.

  • Lounge with fire-place, cozy kitchen. Kitchen with fridge, gas stove, coal stove, microwave oven. Electricity.  Braai facilities.

  • Bedroom 1 – 3 single beds.

  • Bedroom 2 – 2 singles.

  • Bedroom 3 – 2 singles, 1 bunk.

  • Bedroom 4 – double bed.

  • Bedroom 4 – double bed.

  • Lounge – 1 single bed.

  • Temporarily Closed for upgrade

The Stables:

  • The Stables have 2 bedrooms with 2 bath rooms, stoep with braai facilities. Electricity.

  • Is situated 800 m from main farm house. Lots of farm animals roaming the area.- a real farm experience. Linen provided. (Minimum 2 persons)

  • Bedroom 1 – “MILK” – double bed.

  • Bedroom 2 – “CREAM” – 2 single beds.

  • Bedroom 3 – “BUTTER” – 2 single beds

  • RATES: R370 pppn Minimum 2 nights

Kiepersol Cottage:

  • Set snug in amongst the hills of the Suikerbosrand. It accommodates 4 persons.

  • Bedroom 1 with a double bed and living room/lounge 2 single beds.

  • Fire-place in lounge.  Solar energy.

  • One bathroom with a bath and toilet. Gas geyser.

  • Kitchen: Gas fridge, 3-plate gas stove, flat bottom iron cast pots, cutlery & crockery

  • This cottage is secluded and +- 3 km from owners house.

  • RATES: R500 pppn Kids U/12 R200 Minimum 2 nights

Blinkblaar Wag-‘n-bietjie:

  • Situated in the game camp. Secluded and very quiet. Magnificent view.

  • Two bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, spacious lounge with fire place.

  • Bedroom1 – 2 singles en suite.

  • Bedroom 2 – 3 single beds.

  • No electricity.  Solar power lights and gas.

  • Kitchen: gas fridge, stove, pots, pans, cutlery.

  • RATES: R490 pppn Kids U/12 R200 pn Minimum 2 nights

  • Big stoep outside (minimum 4 persons)

Taaibos:

  • Secluded farm house. Magnificent view.

  • Two bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, spacious lounge with fire place.

  • Main Bedroom – 2 singles en suite.

  • Bedroom 2 – 2 single bedsen suite.  Sleeper coach in the lounge.

  • No electricity.  Solar power lights and gas.

  • Kitchen: gas fridge, stove, pots, pans, cutlery.

  • Big stoep outside with braai facilities.

  • RATES: R560 pppn Kids U/12 R220 pn Minimum 2 nights

Die Werf:

  • More luxurious fully equipped Farmhouse with a fire place and a swimming pool (not fenced). Accommodates maximum 13 people, minimum 8 people.

  • There are 4 bedrooms and 2 bath rooms inside the house, and another room and bathroom in an outside building.

  • Bedroom 1 & 2: Both with a double bed in each

  • Bedroom 3: 2 single beds

  • Bedroom 4: 1 single bed – not private

  • Outside building: Spacious room with a double bed and 2 single beds

  • In the lounge are 2 coaches also to be used if necessary.

Hiking Trails:

  • The two main day hiking trails are the “Panorama “(13km) and the “Kraal” (11km) trails.

  • Shorter versions of these trails are available.

  • There is a link between Letsa and Panorama which reduces the Panorama trail to a distance of 7km.  The link between ThabaNyane and Steenbok on the Kraal trail reduces this trail to a distance of 7km.

  • The Nokoloop (4km )meanders through the game camp and is ideal for hikers who arrive early or for guests staying at Kiepersol Cottage, Taaibos Cottage or Blinkblaar Guesthouse.

Mountain Biking:

  • There are more than 30km dirt roads, easy to follow, to be enjoyed.

  • Bring own bikes and safety gear. A lot of game will be seen.

Additional Facilities And Information:

  • Canoes available for rowing on the dam

  • Linen and towels are supplied at all the houses and rooms,

  • 1 bag of wood and charcoal provided – extra bag @R30 for sale

  • There is a big cement dam for swimming

  • NO smoking inside units

  • NO pets allowed

  • MINIMUM 2 nights on weekends. Long weekends MINIMUM 3 nights
