LOCATION:

The park is nestled in the mountains of the Vredefort Crater UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is 12km from Parys (Free State) on the North West bank of the Vaal River.

An unspoiled African wilderness on the banks of the Vaal River with miles of purpose-built trails for hiking, trail running and mountain biking.

Paddlers can enjoy the open waters or navigate between the multiple islands.

MOSSIENES:

    • 120m from the venue office/kiosk, the Koedoe Hall and the Koedoe Swim Dam.

  • • All 6 x cabins are adjacent to venue facilities with direct access to the hiking trails

    • All cabins are self –catering and sleep 4 persons each

    Koedoe Cabins 1- 3:

    • Have bedding included, But NOT on the extra bunk beds.

    • Cabin 1: 1 x double bed + 1 bunk bed

    • Cabins 2+3: 2 x Single beds and 1 bunk in each.

    • Bring own linen, towels, cutlery and crockery

    Cabins 4 – 6:

    • No bedding included (Ideal for children / those who prefer to bring own bedding.)

    • Cabins 4 – 6 Cabins have 2 single beds and 1 bunker

    • There is a big communal boma with braai facilities, fridge and freezer

    • All guests/ hikers must bring own cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils to be used in the boma – social lapa.

SAFARI TENTS:

(32 BEDS IN TOTAL)

has 16 x 2-bed, self-catering, stand-up-straight, safari tents.

This is ideal for bigger groups: youth/ school/ church and adventure groups.

Each tent is equipped with a carpet, 2 beds with matrasses.

A two-drawer unit,
2x travel-bag stools and 2 camp chairs.

220V Charging points are available in Koedoe Hall.

Ablution facility has showers, basins and toilets.

HIKING TRAILS:

Large parts of our trails are cut wider for easy passing and a more social experience.

Parts of the trails are designed for hikers and trail runners only.

Hikers are advised to carry sufficient water and a small back-pack with them (Koedoeslaagte borehole water is perfect).

Trekking poles or hiking-kieries are advisable for the more challenging mountain routes.

Likkewaan Trail – 5km. Moderate. 1.5 to 2 hour hike.

Ou Plaas Trails – 5.5km. Includes historic Van Vuuren monument and the Anglo Boer War trench.

Koedoe & Witkop Trail: 11km. Challenging. 3 to 5 hour hike.

Witkop short -cut to Skilpad Trail – 7.4 km. Challenging 2 to 3.5 hours.

Witkop/Witklip Shortcut – 6.5km. Challenging. 2 to 3.5 hours hike.

Our trails are well-marked and cater for everyone; beginner to accomplished.

The trails are modular: distances ranging from 1km to 30km.

MOUNTAIN – AND GRAVEL ROADS BIKING:

Koedoeslaagte trails are graded: easy, moderate, hard and very hard.

The more difficult routes generally feature longer and steeper climbs, steeper descents and rockier terrain. T

he park also features a 5km SA CUP Cross Country track for those who want to challenge themselves.

Bikes can be hired or bring own bikes

PADDLING

Koedoeslaagte boasts a 1,2km river front.

Our water access has been upgraded.

Motor vehicles have easy access to the waterfront.

To the West, paddlers will enjoy wide open water.

To the East lies a network of islands and rapids to be explored.

You are welcome to bring your own raft, canoe or kayak.

Koedoeslaagte now offers quality sit-on-top kayaks and life jackets for hire: @ R75 for 2 hours per kayak including your life jacket.

Life jackets are compulsory for kids.

Sorry, no launching-to-fish is allowed from Koedoeslaagte.

HORSE RIDING

Experience the serenity of horse riding along the Vaal River and through the picturesque landscapes of our farm.

Rates available on request/ to be confirmed.

bIRD WATCHING

The park has attracted a number of bird lovers over the years. The park decided to invest in birding.

The special 800m Otter Trail has been built to the West of the waterfront that will bring bird lovers up close to the river life.

The Birds of the Vredefort Dome are well documented in a book with the same title.
The book is available at reception.

The birdlife in the pristine mountain-side of the park is easily accessible via our hiking-trail network.
