Kouga Wildernis is a family run farm
It forms part of the Baviaanskloof mega reserve and is nestled in the Kouga Mountains about 28 km north of the town Joubertina on the R62.


THE KOUGA DONKEY TRAIL:
Our hikers have 3 separate options to choose from:
1) The Full board Package 3 nights – 4 days
2) Self-catered 3 night – 4 days Package and
3) Self-catered 4 night package
FULL BOARD OPTION:

This all-inclusive rate covers every meal, drink, and snack—expertly prepared by our team on-site so you can focus on the journey.
Supper on arrival day.
Trained donkeys that carry your gear every day.
A 24/7 Guide who:
handles rounding up and saddling/ packing the donkeys; Shows the way
Unpacks and leads guest in grooming the Donkeys
Helps set up the camps
Prepares food
shares interesting stories, plant knowledge.


This full board package also includes:
4 Night accommodation in tented camps
All meals drinks and snacks
Breakfast lunch and supper for the 3 days hiking
The last day our hikers leave by 9am, so we all have self help coffee, rusks, muesli and yogurt out for them.
All Drinks include, water, tea, filter coffee, fruit juice, fizzy drinks, and alcoholic beverages, beer, wine, ciders.

ITINERARY
Day 1 – Main Camp
Arrive from 14h00 and settle into our welcoming main camp, enjoying a relaxed evening before the adventure begins.
Pitch your tent, meet the donkeys, and spoil them with healthy treats as your guide prepares you for the journey ahead.
The camp offers hot showers, electricity, a pool, lapa, fridge space, and safe parking.
In the morning, pack up with your guide, saddle the donkeys, and set off together into the wilderness.
Day 2 – Tiergrot
An easy 11km hike (with a shorter 5km option) leads you through Sukkelpoort with an amazing diversity of vegetation to Tiergrot cave.
After unpacking and caring for the donkeys, enjoy a swim in a nearby rock pool or relax at camp.
This historic cave, once home to Khoi-San bush men, still holds ancient rock art and powerful stories of survival.
Day 3 – Bergkamp
• With your guide, pack up and saddle the donkeys for a 10km hike through the Kouga Mountains, enjoying close-up views and rich flora before arriving at Bergkamp.
• Unpack and groom the donkeys, take a refreshing swim in the mountain river pool, and settle in for the night.

Day 4 – Return to Main Camp
Pack up and hike 14km across Blouberg, passing more rock art and stunning mountain vistas before descending to Main Camp.
Rinse and groom the donkeys, say goodbye, and savor the final comforts of camp before returning home with lasting memories.
For extra adventure, try the Kleinrivier Kloof route — a marked track with short swims, while donkeys return with the guide.
Dry bags are provided as flotation aids, and an extra guide can be arranged if needed.
