Kouga Wildernis is a family run farm

It forms part of the Baviaanskloof mega reserve and is nestled in the Kouga Mountains about 28 km north of the town Joubertina on the R62.

ACCOMMODATION:

Accommodation is set in magnificent landscapes and consists of a farm house, two cottages, a camp site and a secluded bush camp

SUZIE’S COTTAGE:

  • Maximum 10 persons (3 bedrooms).5-night accommodation, 4 of them in lodges and 1 night in a remote tented mountain camp.

  • This lovely, renovated old farmhouse lies in the shadows of giant old oak trees with a lovely hilly backdrop.

  • The farmhouse consists of 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms (shower and bath)

  • Fireplace and outdoor fireplace.

  • There is an open plan living dining area and a scullery

  • In each bedroom there is a double bed and a bunk bed or two single beds. • In the living room there is a fireplace that will warm up the winter nights.

  • On the stoop are couches to sit and relax and enjoy the surroundings

  • • It is an hour walk from “Oom Carel’s” house and the camp to the forest and then a 3-4 hour route through the forest.

HEUNINGKRANS CHALET:

  • Sleeps 5.

  • This beautiful, wooden chalet is located at the foot of a mountain and offers glorious views.

  • It is equipped with 2 bedrooms and a full bathroom (shower and bath), fireplace and outdoor fireplace.

  • There are two bedrooms; one with a double bed and the other with a double bed and a single bed.

  • Open plan kitchen/living room.

  • Bathroom with a shower and bath.

  • Stoop with a couch and braai.

RIVER CHALET:

  • Maximum 5 persons (2 bedrooms).

  • Nestled on the banks of the Klein River, this wonderful wooden chalet comes with its own natural swimming pool.

  • Swim in your own private pool.

  • The chalet is equipped with 2 bedrooms with a bathroom (shower only), indoor fireplace and outdoor shower.

  • There are two bedrooms; one with a double bed and the other with a 3/4 bed and a bunk bed.

  • Open plan kitchen/living room.

  • Stoop with a couch and braai.

  • Natural swimming pool in front of chalet.

OLD SCHOOL HOUSE:

  • Maximum 7 persons (3 bedrooms)

  • (Pet friendly).

  • The old Schoolhouse offers beautiful views of the surrounding bush and mountains and is fully equipped.

  • There are three bedrooms.

  • Living room.

  • Kitchen.

  • Bathroom.

  • • There are 8 campsites among the giant oaks alongside a stream.
  • • Each campsite has a power point, fireplace and easy access to ablution facilities.
  • • There is a large communal lapa with freezer, fridge, tables, benches and fireplace available to all the campers.
  • • The campsite has a swimming pool and offers access to all the hiking trails. All the campsites are on grass and there is enough shade.
  • • PLEASE NOTE:
  • • We only provide the campsite, visitors must bring their own tents / sleeping facilities. • Those camping at the main campsite may make use of THE LAPA unless it is booked by specific groups for specific activities.

CAMPSITE:

  • There are 8 campsites among the giant oaks alongside a stream.

  • Each campsite has a power point, fireplace and easy access to ablution facilities.

  • There is a large communal lapa with freezer, fridge, tables, benches and fireplace available to all the campers.

  • The campsite has a swimming pool and offers access to all the hiking trails. All the campsites are on grass and there is enough shade.

  • PLEASE NOTE:

  • We only provide the camp site, visitors must bring their own tents / sleeping facilities. • Those camping at the main campsite may make use of THE LAPA unless it is booked by specific groups for specific activities.

BUSH CAMP:

  • Only one group can camp here at a time.

  • For a true wildlife experience, the forest camp was founded in 2007 in a beautiful natural setting with a stream and a natural stone table where you can eat and prepare meals.

  • The hinged cliff provides good shelter for campers.

  • There is a flush toilet and a shower with hot water just up the mountain.

  • The surrounding views and Roman Soldier Rock are beautiful.

HIKING TRAILS:

Koos se Bos (Cycad route)

  • This is a 15 km retour route that can easily be done within 6-8 hours.

  • The trail follows a perennial river through natural untouched indigenous forest filled with yellow wood and cycad trees and is surrounded by steep cliffs. Only a few mountaineers have ever explored this kloof.

  • It is an hour walk from “Oom Carel’s” house and the camp to the forest and then a 3-4 hour route through the forest.

  • This is an absolute must for the adventurer and layman explorers.

Abseil Hiking Trail:
  • The trail is situated on the doorstep of “Oom Carel’s” house.
  • It is an easy hiking trail, and a mere 45-minute casual walk to the top. It is a popular spot to have a sundowner. It is suitable even for elderly people.
Round the Mountain Hiking Trail:
  • This is an easy trail recommended for older people and parents with younger kids. It is an easily accessible from all the houses and camp site.
  • It is a 1½ km long circle route.
Waterfall Hiking Trail:
  • It is “nature lover’s paradise”. It offers lots of surprises with a wishing well and many waterfalls along the way.
  • The whole route is 3 km and takes you through indigenous forest with rare birds, plants and trees leading to the “Ratel Berg” where you have a view over the farm.
  • This route will take you 3-4 hours to complete.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

FISHING- black bass

• It is a working farm with fruit trees, livestock and the harvesting of honeybush tea.

• Farming can be observed at close quarters and is particularly interesting during harvesting time.

• Swim in natural crystal clear pools or in our swimming pool or try catching Black Bass in the nearby Kouga River.

• Explore the mountain streams in search for the rare redwing fish or the very scarce, indigenous Galaxias Zebratus, or identify some of the variety of birds seen on the farm such as the Fish eagle, Knysna- and Vleiloerie.
