Zongororo Mountain Lodge & Trails

Zongororo is a pet friendly 283-hectare working guest farm just outside Waterval Boven in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province. The name Zongororo means millipede in Shona, the language of the Shona people in Nova Sofala, Mozambique. The connection between the millipede and our name is the train that runs through our farm, which we refer to as the steel Zongororo

ACCOMMODATION

  • We offer our visitors three top class self- catering Log Cabins/ units (‘Die Herberg”, “The Shack” and the “Jan Wintervogel”cabin), and for bigger groups there are the Koinonia (24 beds) and Ubuntu (12beds) units in an area rich in historical South African landmarks and activities for young and old.

  • Come and experience the Elands Valley, and feel the earth at Zongororo Guest Farm.

  • Pets allowed – prior arrangement necessary

Jan Wintervogel:

  • This is a private, fully equipped secluded log home for only 2 persons

  • Ideal for a family. There is 1 bedroom with queen size double bed and a sleeper couch in open plan lounge.

  • Bathroom with double shower, hand basin and jet bath.

  • Fully equipped kitchen and veranda, braai facilities and wood provided.

  • RATES: PER UNIT PER NIGHT: 1-2 persons R920 pn

The Shack:

  • This unit features: (5 Beds): 2 separate bedrooms: Queen size bed, 2 x ¾ Beds, and a Sleeper couch in the lounge. Linen and bedding provided.

  • Bath room: Shower, toilet and hand basin. Bring your own towels.

  • Kitchen: Microwave, Two plate stove, cooking utensils, cutlery & crockery

  • Veranda with table and chairs, braai facilities and wood is provided.

  • RATES: PER UNIT PER NIGHT: 1-2 persons R900; 3 persons R1050; 4 persons R1200; 5 persons R1350;

The Herberg:

  • This is a comfortable log house, situated at the foot of the mountains overlooking the peaceful valley, with an open plan living space comprising a lounge, dining room and kitchen.

  • This unit features:(4-6 Beds) 2 separate bedrooms: Queen size bed, 2 ¾ Beds, Sleeper couch in the lounge. Linen/ bedding provided.

  • Bathroom: Shower, toilet and hand basin, bring your own towels.

  • Kitchen: Microwave, two plate stove, cooking utensils, cutlery & crockery.

  • Braai facilities. Wood provided.

  • RATES: PER UNIT PER NIGHT: 1-2 persons R1000; 3 persons R1250; 4 persons R1500; 5 persons R1750

The Faith Cabin:

Log cabin with 2 bedrooms- one with a queen size bed and the other with a single bed. Sleeps 3 people. Bathroom with shower. Lounge, kitchen, stoep & braai area.

Koinonia:

  • Our 6-room log house- Koinonia- embraces the spirit of fellowship and community. The word “Koinonia” means fellowship or communion with God or, more commonly, with fellow Christians.

  • This wooden log house sleeps 10 people in 6 x separate bedrooms, linen and bedding provided.

  • It has it’s own communal kitchen area and bathrooms. Bring own towels.

  • Electricity and gas, oven, 4 plate stove, 3 plate gas cooker, fridge, box freezer, micro wave, cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, pots, pan kettle etc. Braai facilities and wood supplied

  • It’s perfect for private groups, special smaller functions, team-building weekends etc.

  • RATES: PER UNIT PER NIGHT: 1-2 persons R1000; 3 persons R1250; 4 persons R1500; 5 persons R1750; 6 persons R2000; 7persons R22500; 8 persons R2550: 9 persons R2750; 10 persons R3000

Ubuntu:

  • Ubuntu is the largest unit on the farm, and is perfect for adventure camps, school, youth, church groups, hikers and those who do not mind sharing open plan facilities.

  • It consists of 6x rooms, 2x bunk beds and mattresses in each and sleeps 24.

  • Bring your own sleeping bags and pillows.

  • It also has its own communal kitchen and bathroom area.

  • Electricity and gas,

  • Oven, 4 plate stove, 3 plate gas cooker, fridge, box freezer, microwave, cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, pots, pan kettle etc.

  • Braai facilities and wood supplied.

  • RATES: R3500 per night for the unit

GROUP SPECIAL: R9500 per night (Max 25 people)

Exclusive use of lodge: all the accommodation (except Bundu Camp). Conference room, chapel and fully equipped lodge kitchen included

Our Hiking Trails:

  • There are 3 x well planned and clearly marked and sign posted day circular trails with many historical and interesting sites.

  • Hikers will enjoy a big variety of biosphere and all our trails are suitable for all level of hikers, graded moderate.

  • The trails are color coded with Brown, Blue and yellow markers.

  • A detailed map with GPS Co-ordinates is provided for perfect planning and an exciting and adventurous hiking experience.

The Brown (6.3km) And Blue (7.6km) Trails

  • Explore the mountain side and gorges that make up the area.

  • These 2 can also be combined/ linked to make up a good 10-13km trail for the one day.There is a chain ladder that may be used by adventurous hikers for a climb down and back up.

  • A must seen and great lunch spot is at a beautiful waterfall on the blue section.

The 5.6km Yellow Trail

  • Is along the Elands river bank and leads to an island where one can relax and enjoy a Sunday breakfast picnic.

  • This is a fairly level walk, graded as easy. It is ideal for the second day and gives hikers enough time to enjoy the hike and have a good late lunch back at camp before departing.

Other Activities:

  • 2 X Big dams for fishing – catch and release – fishing rods for hire or bring own kit.

  • Horse riding can be arranged with neighboring farm – groups up to 8, stables available bring your own horses.

  • Conferencing/ room and a function venue for weddings etc.

  • Cash bar. Billiards, Darts.

  • Farm Stall with home – made jams, fruits, veggies in season etc.

  • Swimming Pool.
