FARM HOUSE

(Accommodation for 4 to 13 persons).

GUMTREE COTTAGE

  • This quaint three-bedroom cottage used to be an old farm school dating back to the Anglo-Boer War (late 19th century), which was later converted into a small farm house.
  • The cottage is a bit more luxurious than the back packer’s camps and are for groups who are looking for a more private environment to sleep over in.
  • It accommodates 10 persons. (4 x bunk bedsand 1 x double bed in 3 separate rooms).
  • 1 Bathroom with a flush toilet, shower and hand basin.
  • It has a spacious lounge/dining area with an open fire-place in the lounge and braai lapa.
  • The kitchen has basic cooking equipment, a fridge freezer and some essential kitchen appliances.
  • Situated close to the Gumtree Dam and the Kloof Bird Hide, it is the perfect spot for enthusiastic birders. Several back pack, day and circular hikes can be enjoyed from and back to this camp

  • This cottage is a cozy cottage built from the stone found in the area.

WHAT TO DO AT BATELEUR

Circular day hikes start at the bush camp. All trails are well marked and maintained. Trail maps, tracks and descriptions are available online.

  • Hiking – a whole net work of day trails and a back pack trail between two base camps. Trail Maps available
  • Mountain biking – Clearly marked out trails for all levels of riders – maps available.

  • Bird watching – This is a bird watchers paradise, more than 250 species identified

  • Game viewing – Our wildlife ranges from giraffe, zebra, eland, blue wildebeest, sable antelope and bless-buck, to smaller game like warthogs, jackal, bush pigs,

  • Swimming in clear natural rock pools and 2 spalsh pools.

  • Fishing (catch and release)

  • NB: We regret strictly no OWN game drives allowed.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: HOUSES AND CABINS

  • Our accommodation is comfortable and clean, but not luxurious.
  • You will stay in old farmhouses suitably equipped with self-catering and braai facilities. You can buy (prepaid) firewood from our staff. Should you require more wood please drive to Reception. – R30.00 per bag – cash only

  • Apart from the base camps, Stone – and Vaalboom Cottage all units work on prepaid electricity.

  • Be extremely careful not to start veldfires. Runaway veldfires can cause untold damage to the veld, wild animals, and infrastructure. Such disasters can take years to rehabilitate and cost (you) millions.

  • Stone Cottage and Vaalboom Cottage are equipped with gas and just enough electricity to run your fridge and some lights.
