The Bateleur Nature Reserve caters for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts like hikers, mountain bikers, stargazers, birders, butterfly and tree lovers.

Come and explore and discover clear rock pools, unspoiled plains covered in wildlife, deep ravines, and rugged hills with magnificent views. ​

FARM HOUSE

(Accommodation for 4 to 13 persons).

  • Located on the top of a hill, the Farm House provides a panoramic view of the surrounding area and the Waterberg Mountains.
  • This spacious three–bedroomed house it a wrap-around verandah sleeps 8 persons.
  • Two bathrooms (bath tub/shower combination and the other a separate tub and shower).
  • 1 Double bed, six single beds.
  • Fully equipped kitchen, fire-place.
  • Dining/lounge area. Outside braai area.
  • The house has easy access to a large concrete farm dam, which serves as a swimming pool. *

GUMTREE COTTAGE

  • This quaint three-bedroom cottage used to be an old farm school dating back to the Anglo-Boer War (late 19th century), which was later converted into a small farm house.
  • The cottage is a bit more luxurious than the back packer’s camps and are for groups who are looking for a more private environment to sleep over in.
  • It accommodates 10 persons. (4 x bunk bedsand 1 x double bed in 3 separate rooms).
  • 1 Bathroom with a flush toilet, shower and hand basin.
  • It has a spacious lounge/dining area with an open fire-place in the lounge and braai lapa.
  • The kitchen has basic cooking equipment, a fridge freezer and some essential kitchen appliances.
  • Situated close to the Gumtree Dam and the Kloof Bird Hide, it is the perfect spot for enthusiastic birders. Several back pack, day and circular hikes can be enjoyed from and back to this camp

MOUNTAIN VILLA

(Accommodation for 12 people).

  • Carved into the mountainside with breath-taking views of the plateau, the upper wetland and typical Waterberg mountain scenery, nestles this spacious villa.
  • It sleeps 12 persons. 5 Bedrooms – 1 double bed & 10 single beds.
  • Two bathrooms. Fully equipped kitchen. Large dining/lounge area with fire place. Balcony.
  • Outside braai lapa. Own private plunge pool.

MISPEL COTTAGE

(Accommodation for 16 persons.)

  • This cottage is quaint, neat and comfortable, overlooks a waterhole where game come and go all the time. It is fully equipped for 6 people.
  • Two-bedrooms en suite bath rooms. One double bed & 5 single beds. Sitting area with fire-place, balcony. Fully equipped kitchenette. Outdoor braai facilities. Plunge Pool.

VAALBOOM COTTAGE

Deelfontein Observatory

  • This is a small, rustic affordable cottage, which sleeps 3 people in a open-plan layout.
  • It is situated in the Game Breeding Camp and you can expect game on your stoep.
  • It has a double bed & 1 single bed. There is a separate bathroom with shower.
  • Fully equipped kitchenette. Terrace. Sitting area. Braai lapa

STONE COTTAGE

  • This cottage is a cozy cottage built from the stone found in the area.
  • It has a spacious open-plan layout, which includes a lounge,kitchenette and a sleeping area with a double bed & 1 single bed.
  • A wrap-around stoep provides you with breathtaking views of the Waterberg.
  • Equipped braai area under the trees

WHAT TO DO AT BATELEUR

Circular day hikes start at the bush camp. All trails are well marked and maintained. Trail maps, tracks and descriptions are available online.

  • Hiking – a whole net work of day trails and a back pack trail between two base camps. Trail Maps available

  • Mountain biking – Clearly marked out trails for all levels of riders – maps available.

  • Bird watching – This is a bird watchers paradise, more than 250 species identified

  • Game viewing – Our wildlife ranges from giraffe, zebra, eland, blue wildebeest, sable antelope and bless-buck, to smaller game like warthogs, jackal, bush pigs,

  • Swimming in clear natural rock pools and 2 spalsh pools.

  • Fishing (catch and release)

  • NB: We regret strictly no OWN game drives allowed.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: HOUSES AND CABINS

  • Our accommodation is comfortable and clean, but not luxurious.

  • You will stay in old farmhouses suitably equipped with self-catering and braai facilities. You can buy (prepaid) firewood from our staff. Should you require more wood please drive to Reception. – R30.00 per bag – cash only

  • Apart from the base camps, Stone – and Vaalboom Cottage all units work on prepaid electricity.

  • Be extremely careful not to start veldfires. Runaway veldfires can cause untold damage to the veld, wild animals, and infrastructure. Such disasters can take years to rehabilitate and cost (you) millions.

  • Stone Cottage and Vaalboom Cottage are equipped with gas and just enough electricity to run your fridge and some lights.
