  • Flashlights are necessary if you arrive at night.
  • All the huts have bunk beds and thick, good covered mattresses.
  • In total, the base camp can accommodate 28 hikers.
  • There are separate ladies and gents ablution facilities with showers and flush toilets.
  • Hot water is supplied by a donkey boiler, the care taker will make the fire for you.
  • There is no electricity.

  • Bring all own cutlery, crockery and braai utensils.

HIKING TRAILS:

There are 2 trails to choose from, and 2 or more nights are spent at the same base camp. There are approximately 120 tree species and in season 57 bird species where noticed.

Route 1: “Luiperd Trail:

  • This trail is about 8-9 km long. The trail climbs steadily up through a ravine, to a plateau with wide vistas. Continue over a hill where you can see rock fissures, and you might also see black eagles circling near their nests. Then follow a relatively easy contour path below the cliffs until you reach another ravine, where the “Waterberg” yellow trees grow. On your way down you’ll pass by a welcoming rock pool, where you can swim in season. This is a great place for a rest and a bite to eat. The route will then lead you through dense indigenous forests back to base camp.

Route 2: “Bobbejaan” Trail:

  • This trail is about 5-6 km long, and is well marked by baboon footprints. The trail leaves the camp, and winds through an indigenous forested area, before a short, yet steep, climb up the mountain above the camp. Great views of the surrounding countryside await you at the top.
